The New York Times reports that several long-lasting medications are currently in development and trials, potentially making it possible in the next several years to take just one shot every several months to prevent HIV infection. Once-weekly pills and semi-annual injections are also being studied. Researchers are especially excited about the potential use of these new preventative treatments in populations that have been so far hard to reach.
